That's a unpleasant woman... There was no way to avoid the 2 deer I've hit as they came barreling across the road. I hit a small doe on a neighborhood street going about 15 mph on snow, couldn't miss the damn thing. I was lucky to just graze 'em both with nothing more than light bumper damage.
I always get the damage waiver when I rent. It's $20 a day and it kills me to pay it but I've been involved in lawsuits and it seems cheap compared to that.
If you check back later you'll probably have 20 replies telling you to file the claim based on "That's why you have insurance" -and- "I've filed 6 claims in 2 years and *I* didn't get dropped"... if that's what you were hoping for.
The practice of policy cancellation based on inquiries is outlawed in insurance company would break the law just to save a few billion dollars...

375.918. 1 Underwriting, use of credit scores, no adverse action permitted--definitions--disclosures.
10. Insurance inquiries shall not directly or indirectly be used as a negative factor in any insurance credit scoring formula or in the use of a credit report in underwriting.
