Not at all. To ignore the fact the different people have different capabilities is absurd. If we limited want anyone could do to the lowest common denominator we would still be in the stone ages - actually before the stone ages since not everyone was capable of making stone tools.

The fact that I know how to do something in a way that does not cause me to take my eyes off of the road and you don't apparently does not in any way prove that what I do is not safe.

You may not be able to, and I can't either, but that does not in any way prove that other people can not. I've known at least one person who could type better than 120wpm (used to jam manual typewriters) while paying full attention to an unrelated conversation.

ray Incorrect, there is no delay from not watching because I am always watching. That is the point of holding the phone in my lower peripheral vision, I never take my eyes off...

Can you swim the english channel? Can you climb Everest? Can you run the Boston marathon? Do not buttume that your limitations apply to others as well.

I don't need both hands on the wheel in an emergency situation. I drive a manual transmission so one hand may very well need to be on the shift. I also have power steering and am sufficiently strong that I do not need both hands to steer. The days of non-power steering are (mostly) long gone. In fact many people who think that they need both hands on the wheel to steer are likely to over steer and cause a rollover.

I *am* the sane and observant driver. The few accidents I've been involved in have been due to other people not paying attention.

ray The left hand does the steering and turn signaling, and is always on the wheel. The right hand holds the phone and is quite capable of operating the shift...

In one case my truck was parked on the grbutt off the road behind an industrial building and was hit by an 87 year old lady. Certainly not my fault there, not only was my truck not in motion, it wasn't even on a road. She's very lucky she didn't kill someone since the area had a lot of pedestrians.

In the other case I was driving straight in the left lane of a road and a bus pulled in from a side road, didn't see me apparently and came into my lane far enough to catch the fender of the dual rear wheel. I was already mostly past the side street when they pulled out and I was in the left lane. I saw the bus move out of the corner of my eye, but the reasonable prediction was that they were aware of the traffic on the road they were pulling onto and to expect them to pull in behind me, not into the back corner of me.
