The left hand does the steering and turn signaling, and is always on the wheel.
The right hand holds the phone and is quite capable of operating the shift while still holding the phone.
What type of emergencies require more then 180 degrees of steering? People who roll their SUVs do so mainly be over steering. The last thing you want to do in an emergency situation is turn the wheel even close to 180 degrees.
The problem with this theory is that the areas where I would be texting while driving do not require significant steering input. If the truck stalls while I'm going down the highway and I loose steering boost it is of little consequence since at I only need to turn the wheel perhaps 30 degrees to edge towards the shoulder and power steering boost is primarily need for very low speed maneuvering.
If you are using nitrous on a street car you are in all probability taking more safety risks than I am.
I have never claimed that they are safer, nor would I expect any study to show such. What I have claimed is that some drivers are capable of driving just as safely while texting using a cell phone as drivers who are as you say "just driving".
celphones was Why not methanol 4856Pete C. So, that's a 1-2 second delay in applying the brakes because you weren't watching and a 1-2 second delat in turning the wheel at 70 mph. How many feet is that? Everything...
I think that's one of the pre-programmed messages on the phone...
