celphones was Why not methanol 4857ray Incorrect, there is no delay from not watching because I am always watching. That is the point of holding the phone in my lower peripheral vision...

So, that's a 1-2 second delay in applying the brakes because you weren't watching and a 1-2 second delat in turning the wheel at 70 mph. How many feet is that?
Everything you do in a car makes it safer or less safe. Even using the radio or drinking a coffee reduces the safety "quotient." The question is - acceptable risk - is sending txt messages an acceptable risk while driving? You may think so, but so far it's about 50:1 against, and I'd be willing to bet you'd fail your driving test if you were texting during your driver's test, so your local DMV doesn't think so...

You may be a great driver. It's the moron in front of you who just dropped the muffler off his beater truck and you ran it over or the drunk who ran the red light that ends up killing you because he came from nowhere and you didn't see him because you were txting. You may be a great driver, but the rest of the driving public are a bunch of goobs and you need to be watching what the hell they're doing as well.
