Incorrect, there is no delay from not watching because I am always watching. That is the point of holding the phone in my lower peripheral vision, I never take my eyes off the road ahead.

Also incorrect, there is no delay in turning the wheel either, my left hand-arm is more than capable of starting the turn while the right is coming in to buttist. You imply that all the left can do is hold the wheel steady and that is completely false.

Not true, everything you do in a car has the potential to make your driving less safe, it does not automatically make it so. Your individual ability to control your focus, mulbreastask and choose safe strategies controls whether it is less safe or not.

Pete C. I beg to disagree. They were too stupid to pay someone fluent in English to simply proofread what they were *publishing*. Now, in spite of what you read from me here...

If the DMV tester follows the testing grading guidelines based on only objective factors such as following distance, stability in the lane, reaction time to traffic signals, etc. then no they could not fail me. If they are allowed to grade base on non proven, non-objective factors such as their impressions, then yes, they could falsely fail me.

Pete C. Listen. The lens in your eye can only focus at one distance at a time. You can't naturally focus on something far away and something close at the same time...

Actually a truck dropped an entire tailgate in front of me once while we were traveling at approx. 40 mph. Traffic was fairly heavy and in the 1 second I had to react I had to chose whether to swerve which would in all probability slam me into the car to the right of me, or oncoming traffic to the left, or to hold course.

I chose the safer route to hold course and ran over the tailgate quite nicely. I had no accident, no damage, no problem. Based on the folks I've seen who swerve to the point that they are practically on two wheels for a piece of styrofoam in the road, I expect that in the same situation a large percentage of drivers would have had an accident.

And no, I was not texting at the time. I did however have a cup of coffee in my right hand, and oddly enough did not even spill any.

As far as the drunk (or just idiot) who comes flying through a red light, or in from a side street, you are just as likely to be toast no matter what you are doing.

Pete C.
