I drive 70mph in the right lane, that is the speed limit around here. I neither lead the flow of traffic nor impede the flow of traffic. I have never derived much if any pleasure from driving, I simply drive to get to my destination.
I never implied (at least not intentionally) that I text message in all driving situations. Certainly the traffic and road conditions I've seen in the Chicago area are not suitable.
The straight stretches of I91 and I84 outside of Hartford, CT are suitable, many of the highways in TX are certainly suitable. Many smaller roads are suitable during non-peak hours.
You certainly shouldn't be texting in congested-merging-city traffic.
Same controls on my vehicle. Two feet do just fine on three pedals. Left hand does big wheel and turn signal just fine. If your left hand can't hit the turn signal while steering you either need longer fingers or a longer turn signal. Don't need to shift much at all on the highway or long straight sections of road, so that right hand is available for other uses such as text messaging or drinking my coffee.
LLB? I find I have no problem operating the shift while still holding the cell in my right hand. Obviously I'm not talking or texting at that moment, but holding the phone does not present any obstacles to successful shifting.
Well, just because you haven't been around one does not prove they don't exist. Certainly people *are* routinely trained to be far more observant than the average person and there are studies that show that this is successful.
Yes and no, the text pagers can require two hands for people with small fingers to operate, the keys are about 1-3 the size of those on a phone and there are no "home position" tactile indicators to allow you to position properly without looking. I just checked this later detail on my LG VX4400 and my Motorola SkyTel pager.
