Brent P) OK, Brent, let's put this discussion on a reality basis. No device made...

If you plan to carry a handgun in your car (legally or otherwise), a good handgun safe is absolutely essential. The best I've found are made by R&D Enterprises (www.handgunsafe.com). They offer different sizes and styles, all of which are intelligently designed and very well made. I have the Model 4106 (~$170) mounted next to the driver seat in my van, and don't know how I ever got along without it. The lid is spring loaded to open automatically and the lock is a push-button Simplex. This means that the safe cannot be opened without your cooperation, even by someone who has possession of your keys. The box itself is sturdy, and getting into by force requires either a cutting torch or a high-speed saw. I leave a couple of roadmaps lying on top of mine, and it is practically unnoticeable. However, I can enter the push-button combination without even looking down and have my .45 auto in hand in less than 2 seconds. In addition to the .45, my safe also holds 2 spare magazines, a large pepper spray, photocopies of my driver's license, car registration, and LTC, an extra set of housekeys, emergency cash and a credit card.

In my opinion, the car manufacturers should offer a good handgun safe as a factory option.

Sure, the strong safe box won't raise an eyebrow.... they won't be the least bit interested what might be locked...
