Yes there are. If your vehicle requires 200bhp to drive confortably because it is quite heavy (200bhp isn't the big magic figure it once was family hatches and better clbutt rep saloons have it...

With the risding price of fuel, and the consequent reduction in car use, will this be needed?

Wasn't this guy considerate? Having realised that he's fouled up big time and is going to end up in court he saves everyone the trouble...

The cost of widening the 16 miles (27.5km) of motorway between junctions 10 and 13 will be nearly £390m.

The Highways Agency said it had awarded the contract on one of Britain's busiest routes to Costain Mowlem JV.

The firm will widen the motorway between Luton and Bedford to four lanes in each direction, build the link road, improve junctions and build new ones.

The new A5 to M1 link will form the Dunstable Northern Bypbutt, a 2.8-mile (4.5km) dual carriageway with a new junction (11A) on the M1.

Roads minister, Dr Stephen Ladyman, said: "This section of the M1 motorway is a strategic link between London, the Midlands and the North.

"It is used by 140,000 vehicles each day. The extra lanes will improve journey time reliability by making the route safer and less congested."

Widening of the M1 will start in 2008 and be completed by 2011, while construction of the Dunstable bypbutt will start in 2009 and is scheduled for completion in 2010.
