Police powers gone too far was 'Terrorism' alert on the motorway

On Tue, 25 Oct 2005 14:14:59 +0100, Ian Dalziel was popularly supposed to have said:

Depends if it is the lung infection or the NIP. In the former case, five days of 500 mg of amoxicillin three times daily sorted the problem; for the NIP try the PACE letter routine as detailed on pepipoo, and if it is followed on, engage a solicitor and an expert witness on laser rangefinder technology.

The CPS is said to get cold feet if someone tells the court that they intend to minutely examine laser guns like the LTI 20-20 unit in court, with an expert witness; the probable reason being that it doesn't operate quite as accurately as they'd like to believe (or were led to believe by the misleading claims of the manufacturer), and they'd rather not have all lasergun conviction appealed on the ground of inaccuracy of equipment.

Besides, if one speedgun is demonstrated to be rubbish yet was approved by the Home Office, that fact would rather bring into question the effectiveness of the Home Office's testing systems and procedures.

The CPS would understandably rather not go there. But to get them to back down, you have to engage a solicitor and look ready to fight.

On balance I'll take the lung infection any day; under a week of penicillin derivative and I'm sound again, if still coughing a bit now and again.
