no uturns on sign only

Jings!!! Is it just me
Currently doing a trunk run down to Carlisle and back each night and on the return trip I have to cross the 4th road bridge. Normally there are 2 toll booths open and this morning...

Near me there's a 40mph dual carriageway that has a traffic light controlled junction with a side road into an industrial estate. I i.e. I ================

VEHICLE SPEEDS IN GREAT BRITAIN: 2005
Is it any wonder that so many people get end and injured on our roads when so many drivers are allowed to break the law? The offenders should be permanently banned...

Due to the local facilities, lots of people want to do a u turn on the dual carriageway at this point. I've seen how dangerous this is due to unexpected traffic clashing with cars exiting from the estate road.

So what I do - along with many others! - is turn right into the estate road, turn in that road and come back out on to the dual cariageway.

But now the council has extended the traffic island in the side road so you have to go further down, and at the end of the island, placed a single rectangular sign on post with yellow text "no u turns".

so - 1- Is this legally binding, if so why not a proper no uturn sign? 2-how far does the "no uturns "extend - can I just go a bit further down the road & turn? 3-Since there's no "no uturns sign" at the main junction is it permitted there?

The whole thing seems to be solving the wrong problem , which is to do with when they replaced the roundabout that used to be there.
