I'm not quite clear exactly what happened, she pulled out to overtake and lost control? I'm pretty sure she would have performed this move many times before, so I can only think that the extra weight of all the kids caused the car to behave unpredictably. I know my old Pug 205 got a bit unstable at high speeds when loaded with 5 adults.
If I hadn't done a vehicle dynamics course at University I probably wouldn't have known that the heavier you load the car the more unstable it becomes. So, did she actually make a mistake, or was it just that she did not know that her car would be less stable at high speed?
only 2 yrs 157You bet! If a bloke had crammed that many kids into a car then he would have got hammered by the beak. Cos its a f...
What I'm wondering here, is that if any part of the blame lies with the car manufacturer, either for designing a car that becomes too unstable when loaded, or for not pointing this fact out in the handbook.
The lack of central barrier certainly contributed to the outcome of this accident, I see they have placed a temporary concrete barrier there now, fair enough. BUT they have also reduced the speed limit to 50. WTF? Why is this bit of DC any different to the rest of the country, why does it deserve a 50 limit just because some numpty made a mistake on that part.
