Not just for speeding. 500 mile round trip last weekend (mostly motorway), and not a single traffic car anywhere. Plenty of Highways Agency Range Rovers, but neither they nor cameras can enforce:

- the van + trailer doing 70 in the outside lane - the huge amount of middle lane hogging I saw (including the plonker who finally moved over when flashed (not by me), only to move back out again about a minute later, despite there being no danger of catching anything up in lane 1 for a good while) - the usual tailgating in the outside lane, one instance of which may have picked up a ticket, as the culprit rear-ended someone landing them both in the central barrier about 1-4 mile in front of me, bringing the motorway to a halt (luckily got by in only a couple of minutes, as I was near the front of the queue) - M40 J9 on the roundabout. Stopped at the light where the A34 joins from the north, left lane, about to rejoin M40 south. White (Astramax!) van comes up on the inside (half on road, half on verge), stops at the light (why stop when you're already infringing so many laws?), then pulls off not to go onto M40, despite being in the even more left than the left lane, but to continue round roundabout!

Maybe that's why they're using SPECS cameras more through roadworks. That stops the sudden braking, and certainly (from my observations) makes almost all of the traffic cruise through at dead on 40 (or whatver the limit is). There are, of course, a few who blast through, but I guess they receive a nice surprise in the post within a couple of weeks.
