I've been quite clear, there is no problem with having licensing and regulation. The problem is making it a privilege. We should have the right to drive and to do so in public requires showing competence and following the vehicle code. However, it should be a right, regulated such that we do not interfere with the rights of others, like many other such rights.

When something is a privilege, all sorts of other things get attached to having it. Driving as a privilege has and is allowing government to make all sorts of requirements that have nothing to do with protecting the rights of other road users. But as a privilege, we just have to suck it up. Just like when a mother tells a kid he has to eat the veggies before going out to play.

Sure. But they aren't adding anything to improve competence, they are adding things unrelated to driving. Why does the federal government need my photograph in order to insure a safe driving environment?

Not my fault your inteligence and computing power is so limited. I simply question how valid the research can be if next year it's suddenly pointing to .05 BAC instead of .08. Valid scientific research is repeatable. We should have arrived at the proper value 20 years ago, and I think we did. The rest has been an agenda and a desire of groups like MADD to continue. Meanwhile the dangerous drunks always seem to be in excess of .1 BAC.

I have *NEVER* spoken against motor vehicle licensing. I have spoken out against the privilege concept. Figure out the difference.
