right or priviledge ... at what point do you buttert

All,

States maintain that riding-driving a motor vehicle on public rights-of-way is a "privilege" granted by the "State" but there is considerable debate that free persons have a right of travel that cannot be removed unless by due process.

So far, the task of becoming licensed has been relatively straightforward and relatively easy but the State has been putting more and more restrictions on said "privilege" that have only a remote nexus, or even none what so ever, to the act of travel in your private motor vehicle.

These include social security numbers ostensibly to track deadbeat spouses who are not paying child support, information pbutting to the Selective Service or requirements that one be registered to be granted the "privilege", proposals to not grant the "privilege" if student loans are in default or minors are found to be in possession of alcohol, revocation of the "privilege" for petty crimes like not paying for gas, etc.

Now enters the Real ID act where the requirements of documenting who you are and why you are where you are have had the bar raised considerably. That information is to be encoded into the license itself and remotely readable. Outright refusal of a wide range of government services are automatic if you cannot produce the "privilege" document and surely, refusal of a range of private services will follow if you refuse to produce the "privilege" document to have it read and the data therein read into the merchant's computer(s).

These newest requirements have little to nothing to do with your ability to operate your private motor vehicle and-or public safety on rights of ways yet you must voluntarily comply with them such that you can be mobile, a productive worker and a breadwinner for yourself and your dependents.

At what point do you reject the "privilege" status quo and demand the free exercise of your right-of-travel or are we all condemned in perpetuity to the State hanging any and all manner of conditions and requirements on the captive audience that must be granted said "privilege" in order to live?

I'm more than fed up with the whole business ...
