rude drivers nope. rude TRUCKERS... 1930

We've had a few noteworthy incidents around here as well.

Years ago, a person was end when a truck beside them changed lanes left, forcing them into oncoming traffic. To be fair, that truck had to move over to allow another truck to merge from an on ramp. That ramp is too steep and short to allow cars, let alone trucks to merge safely. The state can't close it because the trucking industry can't be bothered to drive a couple of blocks to the next (better) ramp.

A few years back, we had a truck attempt to make a turn on a narrow street in downtown Seattle. The result was a demolished historic cast iron pergola. Although this incident made the news, many minor ones do not. These typically involve large trucks that don't fit in small places, usually to the detriment of the small place. Here again, its not just the truck driver's fault. If a business expects deliveries but doesn't provide adequate loading docks and access, they shouldn't get service.

Not necessarily. The difference is that with professional truckers, you have some butturance that at least at one time they had to demonstrate some knowledge and competence. That is not...

We also had an interesting experience in a construction zone on I-5, north of Seattle. The DOT was in the process of building an overpbutt. They got to the point in construction where they needed to erect some staging and, in order to ensure worker safety, they needed to detour all trucks and high vehicles around the construction zone. They put up signs and an alarm system to detect such vehicles and put it into operation to test its efficacy prior to beginning work. Truck drivers' response basically was "F*k the alarms. I'm not taking a detour". To this day, the overpbutt project has not progressed.

Good buddy Scott intoned the above, but my experience is as soon as the turn signal goes on it seems to be a signal to the idiot that's been 20 feet off my back left...

Now, Washington State is crasking down on drivers who not only tailgate trucks (a good idea) but those who do not provide sufficient room between themselves and trucks BEHIND them. Of course, cutting in front of a truck isn't a good idea, but since when is a driver responsible for the space behind them? -- ------------------------------------------------------------------ Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my pants!
