If there was a need for 25x as many rails as there are now... they would be built, Private business has ALWAYS done better than Gov't (amtrak ring any bells? Gov't run, and runs like garbage).
Far less labor used? Hello? Please tell me you said that as a goof! You need a truck (and driver) to bring the load to a train station. A group of people need to unload the truck, Another group to sort it to destination, Another group to load it onto that train, An engineer to drive the train, a group of people to unload that rail car, and load the final truck, a truck driver (and another truck) to deliver the load.
And before you try to cut labor here... the first set of people can't do the sorting because they are too busy unloading all the other trucks. And the people that sort can't be bothered loading the train because of the backup it will cause
And congrats... two trucks for every one delivery... you just doubled the number of trucks on the road...
And trucks are on the road why? Because people like you keep demanding the freight be delivered to places where you shop. If you quit buying stuff, the trucks will have less freight to ship because demand will be down. See, it's real simple, Trucks aren't on the road for giggles. They are out there for a reason... YOU ARE THE REASON. It's your fault Dave, if YOU quit demanding us to be out here to fit your needs, and there will be less trucks. It's all your fault Dave. It's simple Supply and Demand.
