A power plant has not been built in this country in over 20 years... how many power plants (nuclear power plants) are going to need to be built for this operation of yours. People and industry can't the the ones built they need to keep themselves lit up (ie: California). Good luck with that one.

Yeah, it is - get a semi-truck to about 60 mph, let it coast, it stops in abouta mile. Do that with a regular railroad car, it stops in about 5 miles. Plus, these railcars...

BNSF can't do this now... The state of South Dakota is suing BNSF for breach of contract because they (BNSF) promised the state of SD a certain amount of rail cars will be in state to handle grain transportation, and they have have missed the mark time after time.

I doubt that a rail car will be available every time a farmer in Iowa wants to take his truck somewhere to deliver his crop. Get real. The only way to do this efficiently is to have one rail car per truck. Which again means, you have just doubled the number of vehicles needed to do the trip).

The Govt doesn't do Rail Roading very well, Amtrak ring any bells? Have you seen how well that FULLY Govt run train company is doing?

The govt doesn't pay anything. Taxes (people) pay for things. Amtrak Govt run, people paid, has never been self sufficient, and has never made its own dime.

Not possible. Computers have no foresight, and cannot look and react to real world conditions, that's why subways still have engineers, thats why long haul trains still have engineers. Remote Train works good, IN A YARD. But not on the open rails. You have no idea what your are talking about.

Since I can see you haven't read the thread up to this point, the scenario goes like this: You drive your truck to the rail...

So how many thousands of miles of third rail do you want to build? How many miles of cable will need to be maintained? Ever hear of power outs? What happens to all the freight then.

NO Training at all? Do human beings have a natural instinct for what happens when a train tips over. Do we have a natural instinct for how to handle a third rail or downed power line? Do human beings have a natural instinct for how to handle rail switch errors? Cars stuck on the tracks, people committing dissolution by train? Mechanical malfunction? weather conditions causing wheel slippage on steep grades. Electrical failure causing the rail car to stop, or even the lights or communications system failing? There would be no need to spend any time telling anyone how to handle any of the above situations? None at all? Wow. You really don't know what you are talking about.

Only if you want this to run as dangerous as possible. See above.

Mechanical Problems. Electrical Problems. Brake problems. Cars stuck on Tracks. Speed issues. Poorly maintained rails. Train Collisions. Load Shifting. Traction Problems. Damaged Rail. Broken Axle or wheel. Weather Conditions. And these are just off the top of my head.

Yeah, 'cuz they need a locomotive to move 'em around - a simple problem to solve with self-powered railcars. They...

Ask Amtrak.

Does this happen now? And the amount of rails now is NOTHING compared to the plan that you want to implement.

But they do... they do now, and they do all the time.

Never heard of computer failure? Power failure. Communications failure. All this stuff is foreign to you.

Don't bother replying to the hotmail address buttigned to this post. I haven't logged in for over 2 years, it's been closed. Reply in forum. -- Yeah, I'm back, where have you been?

Nothing's free, but I'd rather be paying for American uranium-produced electricity than middle-eastern produced oil. As for the governenment getting involved in transportation, it already is - this would be government...
