the lane well along vehicles They seem adequate for one bike rider riding single file, IMHO. They are, however, substandard for double-file packs of bikes, which simply means... don't ride double file!
If speed limit is 35mph, minimum is generally speed limit minus 10, therefore 25mph. I just didn't word that part too well.
fully pbutting not SMOG = Signal-Mirrors-Over-the-shoulder glance-Go when safe. I almost never see a bicyclist SMOG before weaving left into otherwise free-flowing traffic in the rightmost lane, and then when they do SMOG, they just go, even if it's not safe.
That, to me, qualifies as reckless.
And yes, motorists do that too, however, a moderate speed collision only does damage to the vehicles, whereas if that was a bicyclist, there will still be substantial bodily injury to the bike rider.
is step It's safer for the bicyclists and yes, it does allow free-flowing traffic to remain at a fairly consistent speed. Plus, most of those are more than adequate in width, almost twice the width of a standard painted-line bike lane.
snip... a markers When the speed limits are 45mph or higher, it's in the best interest of both the bicyclists and the motorists to keep those "pesky bicyclists" off the road. And that's because a bicyclist impeding traffic slows it down to less than about 30mph, and if an unwanted collision between an motor vehicle and a bicyclist does occur, the bicyclist is going to be very seriously hurt at the minimum.
Again, though, the curb divided bike lane allows bicyclists to travel along with the flow of traffic, while safely divided from motor vehicle traffic. In the areas that do have those, they work well enough.
