speed cameras crushed!!!!!!! Approved: wibble

On Wed, 27 Apr 2005 22:44:49 +0100, Martin Brown was popularly supposed to have said:

It isn't; Walton road is a link road between the Boston Spa trading estate and the A1 road, and is an open but somewhat narrow country road. In a standard car, I find that doing over 50 is pushing my luck; lots of off-cambers and dodgy bends.

The speed limit there is 60.

A stretch of road a few miles long, out in the middle of nowhere with barely a house in sight, has acquired about half a dozen cameras, mostly Gatsos but with two Truvelo cameras on it.

The silly thing is, there isn't any point to all this. The road is mostly unfenced; play silly buggers at speed and the most you'll do is clobber a few square metres of wheat when you run off the road; the roadway isn't dangerous at all, and doesn't strike me as a rat-run or raceway, either.

It does strike me as the sort of place where a speed camera might get the occasional Viking ceremony pyre lit in its honour, being quiet and not overlooked to any degree with quite a few dumped tyres around the place, but precisely why some dumbo thought infesting the place with scameras was a good idea goodness only knows.

Todays M1 pileup
I had a very unpleasant experience on the M1 today, well actually it started on the M25. Just after 2pm there was a heavy rainstorm...
