speedbumps... 1322

I've got one of those step counter thingies blu-tacked to the dash of my Berlingo, it counts the number of humps I cross every day. Almost my whole working day is spent bouncing over the sodding things, on average 300 a week! I half in jest submitted a risk buttessment to Fife Council listing the risks (pressure of work, no alternative route, RSI, cars swerving around them etc. etc.) and pointing out that the worst offenders, eg buses and transit sized vans, were not slowed at all. Their reply:

Yup I still have the Cinquecento - it just really peees me off that I cant have a comfortable journey in the precint without bashing the cars suspension...

"Buses and larger vans will be slowed by smaller vehicles in front of them"

Therefore every bus and transit van must now be escorted by a Nissan Micra, in the name of road safety.

The speed humps actually make the roads more dangerous for the chiiiilllddruuun, because brats would expect everyone to slow for the humps, and are caught out by the 'charge on through' brigade.

Have you noticed how many humps have been remade (Newcastle, Warout Road, for example) with new approach and exit ramps, and almost every hump has a ~21mm wide gouge out of it, presumably bus sump-plug size? -- Keith
