Damn! I was just about to post on this!
Here in CA, I was in Costco, and I discovered a phenomenon- next time you're in a store like that, and around similar folks, notice where the *eyes* of the people who are nearly running into you are.
I'm 6'3", 215lb, and brown-skinned- IOW, I'm *hard to miss*, and without fail there are people- the type which'll be apparent if you perform this little test in a "diverse" neighborhood1- who will look away from you as you approach them, still pushing their carts right into your path, because they expect *you* to move for them- *just* like they do on the highway when they move into your still-occupied lane, or turn in front of you while you're moving at a fast clip, etc.
After nearly getting hit once or twice and having to move, I said "fskc this" and would put my hand out and just started letting their carts bounce off me- hitting a hard object got their attention really quickly after that, and I told 'em to watch where TF they were going. I'm sure it was wasted on those morons.
A couple recent sightingsFirst, driving along I94 just before it branches off to I894, there is a slowdown. I wonder what's going on...
