tyre inflating foam

As part of the bit of kit I carry round in the boot I came across this tyre inflating foam by Car Plan in Asda the other day. It's used as a 'get you home' in the event of a small puncture. To use it you first deflate the tyre completely, then attach the nozzle to the valve and press the button on the top of the cannister.

This squirts foam into the tyre. The foam actually inflates the tyre and seals the puncture. The instructions say that you should then drive 6-8 miles to even the foam out inside, then stop and check the tyre again.

On the face of it it sounds very useful. Imagine being able to inflate a flat tyre without having to faff around with changing the wheel. But is it really useful or is it a gimmick in practice? Has anyone used this stuff before? It says that you should tell the garage that you used this product when you take the tyre to them. Presumably the used-set foam can be removed and doesn't necessitate buying a new tyre.

Does this stuff have any value at all?
